Explosion Propulsion: Two kinds of nuclear pulse drives are planned: an Orion Drive propelling itself using nuclear bombs, and an inertial confinement fusion rocket that uses lasers to detonate a pellet of fusion fuel.Building Is Welding: There's a spray of sparks whenever a part is added in the VAB, as if it had just been welded on.Asteroid Thicket: Some planets, such as Ovin, have ring systems with thousands of rocky or icy fragments clustered together.Alien Sky: The new planets and star systems include some weird and wonderful vistas, such as Rask & Rusk, binary planets tidally locked to each other so the same side is constantly facing the other Ovin, a ringed super-Earth with the arch of the rings visible from the surface and Marble, an icy moon with a blue-white atmosphere and a massive gas giant hanging overhead. This game contains examples of the following: Development vlogs, feature showcases, and other pre-release materials can be found on the official KSP YouTube channel. The announcement trailer for the game can be found here. New mechanics included in KSP2 include multiplayer, expanded colonization mechanics, and even interstellar travel. Like its predecessor, KSP2 places the player in charge of the Kerbals' nascent space program as they begin to explore the planets and moons beyond Kerbin. The game will be playable on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. It was announced at 2019's Gamescom and released in early access on February 24, 2023. Finally, they'll add a multiplayer mode where Kerbal Space Program 2 players can assemble and launch rockets in the same instance.Kerbal Space Program 2, or KSP2, is the upcoming sequel to Kerbal Space Program. Next, they'll add colony construction a la Surviving Mars, the ability to construct spaceships in orbit, and new interstellar star systems that players can send their newly constructed starships to. First they'll add basic Career Mode game mechanics like a Tech tree and in-game science experiments players can perform to unlock new parts. Developers of KSP 2, however, do have a rough timeline for when and how they'll add the more novel features to their early access. Simpson, in the Kerbal Space Program 2 interview, also discussed the introduction of new in-game propulsion technologies like Metallic Hydrogen rockets and nuclear pulse "Orion Drives" that propel spacecraft with a series of nuclear detonations, plus the ability to automate resource extraction and transportation operations.Īs mentioned before, the early access for Kerbal Space Program 2 is currently bare-bones, possessing none of the late-game technologies or gameplay modes listed above. The two biggest features he mentioned are interplanetary colonization - building elaborate planetary bases and space stations - and slower-than-light interstellar travel to other star systems. In a Screen Rant interview with Nate Simpson, the Creative Director of Kerbal Space Program 2, he described the rich new features Private Division and Intercept Games would add to the final version of KSP 2. KSP 2's Vehicle Assembly Building Mode also has a few new quality-of-life features such as the ability to paint spaceships and align components using an orthogonal view. The layout and look of these interface icons is more minimalist in the Kerbal Space Program 2 early access, while a new orientation controller makes it easier to rotate a spaceship's nose or rocket nozzles in the right direction. The basics of the Kerbal Space Program 1 interface are still present in the Kerbal Space Program 2: a Nav-Ball that shows a spaceship's orientation relative to the nearby planet, a meter for measuring a rocket engine's throttle, a dedicated button for ejecting/igniting booster stages, etc. This feature is a godsend for new players who aren't familiar with the game's basic controls or their ability to pause, speed up, or slow down the progression of time in a space mission. Additionally, the spaceship assembly and spaceflight tutorial missions are now fully voice-acted and automatically pause whenever a new step in the lesson needs to be taught. First, each tutorial mission is paired with a short animated video where a narrator uses cartoon icons to teach players about the physics of real spaceflight (as opposed to spaceflight in games like the planet-hopping Star Wars Jedi: Survivor). The tutorials in the Kerbal Space Program 2 early access are much more approachable and comprehensive for several reasons.
